Program Details
The healthcare industry faces challenges with providing appropriate and safe treatment to meet the needs of patients who have both behavioral and physical healthcare needs. The approach to care often is fragmented as a result of the complexity of patients’ needs, lack of training and resources, and other factors. Blending behavioral health services with medical services can help bridge the gaps in care. This program establishes a foundation for implementing an integrated approach across the healthcare spectrum to improve quality of care and overall health outcomes as well as reduce costs. Malpractice claims data analysis and case studies are presented to reinforce learning objectives.
Educational Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, learners should be able to:
- Define the difference between behavioral health and mental illnesses
- Describe challenges related to managing behavioral health patients beyond the behavioral health unit
- Understand professional liability claims as they relate to clinically significant risks associated with managing patients beyond the behavioral health unit
- Understand the concept of bridging the gap between behavioral health and physical health through an integrated approach to care
