Communication and Connection: Essential Skills for Improving Patient Care
Course Description
Communication breakdowns are frequently identified as contributing factors in adverse events and medical malpractice cases. Every healthcare encounter involves the exchange of information between the patient and provider, and in most cases, between multiple providers who are part of the care team. Physicians and healthcare professionals must actively pursue improved skills for connecting with their patients and each other. Evidence shows that enhancing communication can benefit physicians by cultivating better doctor–patient relationships, alleviating burnout, and reducing professional liability exposure. This presentation will focus on effective ways to communicate, build relationships, and solve problems, while improving patient safety and outcomes, thereby reducing malpractice risk.
Target Audience
The educational design addresses the needs and issues of healthcare providers including physicians, nurses, physician assistants, healthcare administrators, and office practice managers.
