Accurate and thorough documentation is the backbone of a sound approach to risk management; it provides essential patient information, historical details about the course of patient care, and a record of services provided.

This program explores documentation issues in dentistry and how those issues lead to increases in frequency and financial severity of dental malpractice claims. The program examines the prevalence of documentation as a contributing factor in dental malpractice claims, the top documentation issues associated with these claims, and the essential components of quality documentation. Case studies and risk strategies related to documentation also are presented to support audience understanding of the topic.

Upon completion of this activity, learners should be able to:

2. Describe the foundation for proper dental record documentation
3. Discuss the need for appropriate and effective documentation

Participants should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Individuals not seeking CME, CDE or CNE may take the test and submit their certificates to their professional CE accrediting bodies for review and consideration.

Premium Credit

This activity offers 0.50 hour(s) of risk education credit with full documented participation. MedPro Group insureds who successfully complete this activity might be eligible to apply earned risk education hours toward a premium credit. To receive a 1-year risk management premium credit, insureds must take two 0.50 hour courses and one 1-hour course or four 0.50 hour courses. 

Approval by MedPro Group does not imply acceptance by a state or provincial board. Premium credit eligibility and amount are subject to state insurance filings and policy type. Completion of a risk management course does not imply or guarantee renewal.
