Program Details

Quality communication with patients is vital in dentistry for personal and clinical reasons. Communication is the cornerstone of patient engagement and patient-centered care, and it can also help address issues related to patient comprehension, informed decision-making, and adherence to treatment plans.

This program explores patient communication issues in dentistry and how those issues lead to patient injuries and subsequent dental malpractice claims and claim losses. The prevalence of patient communication issues in dental malpractice allegations and potential communication problems and pitfalls are explored. Additionally, this program identifies best practices for establishing quality communication with patients and presents case studies to support audience understanding of the topic.

Educational Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, learners should be able to:

  1. Review the significance of patient communication as a dental malpractice claims driver
  2. Describe the importance of high-quality patient communication
  3. Discuss the potential problems or pitfalls in patient communication
  4. Identify best practices in the patient communication process
  5. Analyze case studies for lessons learned

To receive a 1-year risk management premium credit, insureds must take two 0.50 hour courses and one 1-hour course or four 0.50 hour courses. 

Approval by MedPro Group does not imply acceptance by a state or provincial board. Premium credit eligibility and amount are subject to state insurance filings and policy type. Completion of a risk management course does not imply or guarantee renewal.
