Program Details

Healthcare professionals are trained to resolve professional differences of opinion collegially. Similarly, many people try to avoid creating conflict with others through the course of their normal daily lives. What happens when patient and family behaviors escalate within the office practice setting?

This program seeks to define and explore the many types of difficult behaviors that patients and their families demonstrate, along with a detailed analysis of why these confrontations occur. Armed with a more thorough understanding of the factors influencing or contributing to difficult behaviors in patients and families, healthcare professionals can work to find a positive approach to reach the goals of care.

Educational Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, learners should be able to:

  1. Analyze how difficult encounters negatively affect patient care
  2. Identify factors that may contribute to problematic or noncompliant patient behaviors
  3. Evaluate the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on patients, families, and healthcare professionals
  4. Identify proactive steps for reducing the escalation of problematic or noncompliant patient behaviors
