Not Your Momma's Marijuana + Proper Prescribing

Registration

Course Description

In Oklahoma, 1 in 4 adults carries a medical marijuana patient license.  It is likely that every day, physicians and healthcare professionals encounter patients actively using medical marijuana in some form or fashion. Join Kelly Dunn, MD as she presents a clinically grounded lecture taking a deep dive into cannabis—from plant science to patient care. We will unpack the surprisingly complex Cannabis plant, exploring cannabinoids like THC and CBD, demonstrating why today's high-potency products are not your momma's marijuana. Along the way, we'll connect these components to the endocannabinoid system and what that actually means for mood, memory, motivation and reward.

Dr. Dunn will review the research about how marijuana affects the individual and separate myth from data to understand both short-term intoxication effects and longer-term functional outcomes. We will take a balanced look at risks and potential benefits, equipping physicians and healthcare professionals with the tools to provide effective care to these patients.
